Reforged is out, and other updates

Well, it’s been a long, long time since I last updated and if you’re somehow reading this, thank you. Thanks for sticking with me.

I’ve enjoyed retirement with my wife, moved states, switched from suburban living to very, very rural life and learned a whole new routine that comes with all of those things. The world has seen some changes too since my last book. We live in interesting times.

After years away, I finally got back on the horse and wrote the finale to the Scorched series. The Reforged ebook is now available on Kindle, Smashwords, Apple Books, Nook, and Kobo. It was slow, methodical work and there were a number of pauses for many reasons. However, the consistent thing was that I refused to just churn out a novel I wasn’t proud of. I wanted the finale for Kat to be worthy of her journey and I hope I’ve created just that.

The price for taking time away from writing and then writing slowly is readers naturally move on. I know I do. I definitely can’t blame that for happening. Still, despite my concerns that this book will be left unread, it’s no reason to stop what I enjoy doing. Hence, Kat finally gets her ending. I hope you welcome Kat and Sadler back as old friends. You all have certainly waited patiently enough for them.

Next on the agenda is Across the Blue Line (the next book in the Parasite series that began with Hero of the Republic). It’s daunting because it’s a massive series and don’t want to screw it up more than waiting all these years between books already has. I do believe that not pushing the book out was the right thing to do though. The partial draft that I had written, so many years ago, just wasn’t working. In the long break I’ve taken, I figured out why and I find myself thinking more and more about the series and characters and that’s a good sign that creativity is flowing again. I think what I put out next will be much better than anything that might’ve come earlier.

There is no timetable for ATBL. I don’t even know how long it will be. Sorry. HOTR was a long, long book and I believe that books in series should be similar in length. It’s jarring otherwise. Of course, so is waiting years between books! I really do understand that.

I will try to update my blog more as things move along to keep anyone interested posted. I am always eager to read e-mails with questions or comments and I try to respond to anything sent my direction. But, it’s also early summer and there is yard work to do, a house to maintain and my family to enjoy life with, especially now that my wife is home with me most days. I do want to abide by a daily writing schedule but I don’t want it to dominate my life like it did in the beginning. I’m a modest, part-time writer.

In the meantime, I hope everyone reading this has a great June and, if you’re bored on one of those dog days of Summer that are coming, consider picking up the completed Scorched series for your e-reader and following Kat on her final struggle against The Society. It’s dystopian, superhero-ish fun.
